E.RankinLtd were contracted by Whitbread PLC, to carry out the asbestos removal, pre-demolition strip outs, complete demolition and the crushing and stock piling of the demolition spoil as well as the safe removal of an unused diesel tank. E.RankinLtd applied for the section 81 demolition notice to TendringDistrict Council, produced detailed method statements and risk assessments as well as condition reporting on surrounding properties, site waste management plans and a detailed traffic management plan.
E.RankinLtd had a selection of its own plant on site, firstly to assist with the strip outs and then the larger demolition excavators for the main works.
E.RankinLtd were finished on site ahead of schedule and on budget.
Hamlyn House, Highgate Hill, Archway, London

Rankin Dismantling Ltd were contracted by H&J Martin to carry out the structural alterations package at Hamlyn House in Archway, North London. One of the largest elements of the works was the removal of around 5000m² of glazed curtain walling. Also the removal of the eighth floor in its entirety, this was made up of blockwork with a brick façade. Rankin Dismantling Ltd also had to remove the eight storey lift shafts and take off all of the roof coverings.
Due to serious weight loading issues on site, a 10m² raft was manufactured for the 1.5t excavator to work off reducing the point loading to less than 3kn/m².
The project was programmed for 10 weeks and even with around two weeks worth of extra works instructed after we had started we still delivered the project in 9 weeks.
Colnebank house, St Peter’s street, Colchester, essex

E.RankinLtd were contracted by Whitbread PLC. to carry out the demolition and site clearance of this Royal Mail sorting depot. This concrete structure had been fire proofed using a chrysotilespray when originally built, this had to be removed prior to any demolition happening. With a large amount of plant on site this building was demolished in full within 4 weeks and the site left clean for the builder to follow on.
One of the major stumbling blocks was the discovery of a 9” high pressure water main that serviced around 2000 properties, after liaising with Anglian Water this was isolated to allow works to progress.
Duke of York square, King’S road, ChelSea

Rankin Dismantling were contracted by Gilbert Ash and Cadogan Estates to carry out the major internal alterations to 29 Duke of York Square, located 200 metres from Sloane Square. The works included the removal of a twin escalator unit which was fixed in the retail outlet below. We had to erect a crash deck inside the shop and then box this in to hide it, we then had to erect a major lifting beam system to support the escalators while they were cut out. There was also the removal of the west stair core in its entirety as well as three lifts and associated running gear and motors. E.Rankin were also required to carry out the removal of sectional brisesoleilon the roof as well as a number of roof sections.
We were also required to remove all the travertine marble flooring throughout and all roof coverings. There was also a substantial amount of M&E in the basement, the risers and the roof which we had to remove. All works had to be carried out within a strict 4 hours a day for noisy works.
Curtis House, Ladderswoodway, arnosgrove, London

Rankin Dismantling are delighted to have recently secured the complete demolition and clearance of Curtis House in Arnos Grove, North London. The contract includes the removal of all asbestos containing materials both notifiable and non-notifiable, a major pre-demolition strip outs and then the top down demolition using a 62m high reach.
The site boundary is tight to the public footpaths and a protection scaffold is being erected to the Lower Park Road eleveation. A scaffold waste chute is being erected to the front to allow the general waste to be removed safely reducing manual handling.
All demolition spoil removed from site for recycling.

Rankin Dismantling Ltd. were contracted by ADH Construction to carry out the demolition and refurbishment asbestos survey, removal of all asbestos containing materials, strip outs and the cut and carve of this former office building to allow conversion to new residential apartments. E.Rankinhad to remove the roof’s and associated structures, all internal partition walls, external party walls, all internal ceilings, a large steel fire escape and also form a number of new openings for new internal and external windows and doors and for new padstones to be installed for the new steel work. All works completed two weeks ahead of the original programme and a number of additional items were also carried out.

Rankin Dismantling Ltd were contracted by Galliard Homes to carry out the pre-demolition strip outs, removal of asbestos containing materials and then demolish this pair of large double level industrial units. We acted as principal contractor on this project supplying welfare for the site operatives, traffic management where required, site waste management plan and suitable method statements and risk assessments. All works were completed ahead of programme and as per the budget agreed prior to starting works.We had number of demolition excavators on site to complete the works within the tight deadlines required.
The Former Bellerby theatre, leapale lane, Guildford

E.Rankin were contracted by Bowmer and Kirkland to carry out the complete demolition and site clearance of the former BellerbyTheatre, associated studios, Live and Let Live Public House and Guildford Community Centre to make way for a new Waitrose store, the building s were all strip outsped prior to demolition and then selected areas were dismantled by hand to salvage any suitable bricks and roof slates. The demolition spoil was then crushed for use by the groundworkers. The project was completed within its 6 week programme.
Former Peugeot garage Norwich road, fakenham, Norfolk
We were contracted as the principal contractor on this complete demolition and site clearance of a former car garage and workshops and detached house and outbuildings. There was major asbestos contamination throughout the site which needed licensing through both the local council and the HSE. A number of excavators with varying attachments were employed on site to carry out this major demolition scheme. The buildings were a combination of steel framed with asbestos roof sheets over clad in zinc and brick structures with tiled roofs. There was also a large culvert discovered on site which was then excavated and removed. A number of underground tanks were also on site and these were made safe and excavated and removed as well. The programme of 14 weeks was accelerated to get the client on site ahead of their scheduled start date.
